Youth Ministry

New Name……New Look—come on down sometime and check out R.E.B.E.L.S.

This year started with a bang on New Year’s Eve and we followed it with a face lift to the youth group room (still in progress).  The teens also decided on a new name…R.E.B.E.L.S. which stands for Real Everyday Believers Encouraging Lost Souls.  Although at first this seems to take on a somewhat rebellious meaning, after talking it over with some of the teens I agree it fits todays Christian teens to a T.  Some shared with me that they felt like in this day and age, and with what they are surrounded by day in and out, you really had to be a rebel to be a Christian teen in their world.  I tend to agree with them.  The more I see and experience the more courageous I find these teens to be!

With our new name in place we are working in February and March to explore what Love looks like from a biblical standpoint and how we can share that day in and out with those around us.  This to me is the heart of evangelism which is close and personal to my own heart.

We have One Life winter retreat coming up the weekend of Feb 12-15th which myself and 6 teen girls will be attending.  From there we have Covenant Women’s Sunday which the youth girls have been asked to help with worship and special music.

Lent begins on Feb 10th and brings us through March to my favorite holiday on Sunday, March 27th–Easter.  We are planning to have a Youth Group Sunday sometime in March which we hope to get all REBELS involved in.  I feel this is a very special time of the year to really put our hearts into a service to glorify God and his Son.  I hope to do some special music and drama to express the amazing Lenten season and what it means to our teens.

I am always looking for ways to connect the youth and adults in our church.  As we branch out we now have a new teen helping with sound and projection.  Kelli Moloney brings our numbers up to 3 in this area.  Between projection/sound and worship we now have 12 teens contributing to our Sunday services. I think this is great!!!  I feel very strongly that we have so much to share with each other as parishioners of this church.  Adults sharing their wisdom, patience and talents with teens adding their enthusiasm, creativity and energy.  I do not know of a better combination than to put all those gifts together to Glorify and work in God’s Kingdom.  I know we can ALL be hugely blessed in these scenarios. Please feel free to come talk with me and share any of your ideas or opportunities where teens and adults can come together in the future.

Many Blessings,
